A Chance Trip to Stockholm

When my daughter was younger, we loved to watch the movie Mamma Mia. She was too young to understand why Sophie had three dads. She just liked the music. The first Broadway show I took her to was Mamma Mia and thus, a love of Abba was born.

I loved to travel with my daughter, even when she was younger, so I told her that one day we would go to Sweden and go to the Abba Museum. I had zero idea what else we would do in Sweden, but it sounded like a fun adventure. It was a fun little dream.

A few years later, my (now) husband and I become friends with someone new and one day, our new friend says his brother will also be meeting up with us on this one particular meeting. As an aside, he says his brother is from Stockholm. Stockholm? I cannot lie that the Abba Museum was the first thing I thought of. Fast forward a few years and we ended up becoming friends with the Swedish brother too. So much so that when my husband and I finally got married, he even flew to Florida for the wedding.

Our Swedish would often invite us to visit him in Stockholm and one day, I decided, why not? I had no idea what to do in Stockholm (except the Abba Museum), but it sounded like a fun adventure. Who would have known that my far fetched idea when I was signing Dancing Queen with my daughter would actually happen. One never knows, they say!

Of course, the first thing we did was go to the Abba Museum. My Swedish friend had also never been, so it was a fun afternoon for all of us. In fact, it was a well done exhibit and I highly recommend it.

we heard that we also needed to go to the Vasa Museum. The Vasa Museum is dedicated to the Vasa, a 17th-century Swedish warship that sank on its maiden voyage in 1628. The ship was salvaged in 1961 and is now the world's best-preserved ship from that era. The Vasa sank because was too top-heavy , causing it to capsize after sailing only less than a mile from the harbor. The Vasa is well preserved and the majority of it is in its original state, giving insight into Swedish ship building and naval history.

I did not expect to fall in love with the food in Stockholm, but I did. I recommend the Ostermalms Food Hall which is a famous food hall with stalls selling everything from fresh produce to gourmet foods, and traditional Swedish delicacies - seafood, meats, cheeses and prepared meals.

I will include more on my visit to Stockholm in future posts, but for now, I leave you with the thought that we never know where life is going to take us so roll with it and have fun in the process!
